Albert Neil Lyon (1880-1940) was born in the South African town of Kimberley and was educated at Bedford Grammar School in nearby Hanover. After receiving accountancy and legal training but his i…nterests moved to journalism. He wrote articles on military topics and when he was nineteen succeeded in gaining a low level post at The Critic. Soon after this he emigrated to London where he contributed to the weekly newspaper The Clarion. He published several works of both fiction and non-fiction, of which the best known is probably "Arthur's". 'Kitchener Chaps' is one of his lesser-known novels. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and blind stamped titling and design on the front board.
