Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. First UK Edition. First impression of the first UK edition - published by Souvenir Press as a Condor book. Preceded by the first American edition, which was published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston in 1969. Conversations between Richard Burgin & Jorge Luis Borges. Jacket design by Hasted Burchardt. ***Near fine in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unmarked - just slightly faded at the top of the spine. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges nice and clean. Internally also near fine, but with a previous owner's name in ink and with her very attractive bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper (please see scans). Very light offsetting to the front and rear endpapers. Internal pages clean with no foxing. No creases or tears. ***In a near fine colour-illustrated dustwrapper, which has been neatly price-clipped to the bottom corner of the front flap. The dustwrapper is otherwise complete, with just some light rubbing to the edges, and slight creasing at the edges, mainly at the top of the back panel. No serious creases, chips or tears. Back panel and inner flaps of dustwrapper just slightly browned (being a plain white background). Dustwrapper otherwise crisp and bright. ***222mm x 142mm. 159 pages including an Epilogue at the back of the book. ***'When Borges visited Harvard University in 1967-68 he created great and genuine excitement both as a literary hero and as the charming, enchanting, fascinating person that he is. The visit occasioned this book and his conversations with Richard Burgin, at the time a mere undergraduate, show us the man and his genius in perfect accord --- [the conversations] provide us with a fascinating insight into what lies behind his literary intelligence.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the first UK edition, in its original dustwrapper, in near fine collectable condition, albeit with the above mentioned faults. The UK first edition is far less common than the American, and copies of this work are hard to find in such nice collectable condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Hasted Burchardt (Jacket design) (illustrator).…
