An engraved county map of Warwickshire — "The Counti of Warwick, The Shire Towne and Citie of Coventre described" — from John Speed's Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine, engraved by Jodocus Hondius and published by John Sudbury and George Humble at Pope's Head Alley, London. Imprint reads "Performed by John Speede… Cum Privilegio." The map features an elaborate cartouche with compass rose and decorative border, inset town plans of Warwick and Coventry top left and right, heraldic cartouche bottom right showing "The Armes of Such Honourable Families as Have Bene Earls of Warwick" with individual family shields. Hundreds are named throughout. Presented in uncoloured state. John Speed (1552-1629) produced the first comprehensive atlas of England and Wales. His county maps, engraved by Jodocus Hondius in Amsterdam, remain among the most collected antique maps of Britain.
