[Spy thrillers] JAMES BOND PAPERBACKS. Thirteen volumes, octavos. A collection of vintage paperback editions (various printings) of the original Ian Fleming novels. Both versions of 'The Spy' are first printings. Used condition with expected tanning to text blocks, some rubbing/creasing, a few spines sunned, rubbed to joints, may have owner names etc., but no significant defects. 'Thunderball' has a tip-ex/liquid paper spill to cover.

A collection of Bond-based publications, various dates and publishers. Privately bound (ca.1960s) in vinyl-backed boards, embellished with curious handmade dust-jackets with Chopping-esque wood-grained backgrounds and related collage-style laid-on illustrations, 'Letraset' type lettering applied, all under a clear film covering. The 'omnibus' volumes have their original covers bound in. Two of the books (Moonraker and Dr.No) are in publisher's hardcovers with similar handmade jackets. Contents generally fine, papeback text blocks toned as expected, the idiosyncratic covers with some tape marks as expected but but without their own appeal. A rather charming amateur personal take on James Bond book design, being a vintage version of what we now term 'fan art'. A unique collection, later part of the comprehensive bibliographical archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled ownership. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography.
