Jonathan Cape. 1956. First editon, first issue. Hardback in DW. Silver text to spine. Upper board embossed with blind-stamped diamond pattern with silver diamond to centre. Spine has a slight lean and there is very light wear to edges and corners of boards. Very light foxing and browning to edges and endpapers. No inscriptions. A clean and sound copy in wrapper that is NOT price-clipped but is slightly rubbed and worn to extremities with two small pieces of tape internally to bottom of rear joint and bottom of where rear flap meets rear panel. Rear panel is slightly soiled and there is a tiny scratch mark to centre of spine. SCARCE. First issue points are as follows:Page 25, Line 1: 'It had do to with'. Page 75, line 9: 'tie a shoeleace'.In the first impression on page 134, lines 25-26: 'His friends call him "Boofy"'. In the second impression that was updated to Duffy. Fleming liked to add his frends names or nickames onto characters and in this instance a friend objected.
