Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 4 hardcover volumes in uniform bindings; brown leather spine and corners, with marbled paper over boards. Some rubbing to boards and wear to spines, with ghostly remains of neatly removed stickers from the spine (upon close inspection). Bindings tight. Overall still attractive on the shelf. Bookplates on the inside front covers from the Eastbourne Natural History Society, with its book borrowing rules. Their rubberstamp on the title page and dedication page. Volume 1 dated 1818. 519 pages plus 3 hand colored plates, one of which has rubberstamp at the bottom. Volume 2 dated 1817. 529 pages plus 2 color plates, one of which has rubberstamp. Volume 3 dated 1826. 732 pages plus 15 plates, only one of which has some hand coloring. Volume 4 dated 1826. 634 pages. 10 plates. A couple of the volumes have a rubberstamp on the final page of text too. A nice set. This was from the Lincoln Brower collection, though it does not have his name in it. We've got a wonderful bookshelf of books from Lincoln Brower's collection listed here in our Brower catalogue. Everything you know about Monarch Butterflies, you know because of Brower's work, both scientific and outreach. He was a great teacher, an important researcher, a torch-bearing conservationist, and a leading light in lepidoptery. We are extremely excited to offer his books.
