1 vols. 8vo. First edition, first issue with dedication reading "To Boys and Christina" instead of "To Borys and Christina" 1 vols. 8vo. Conrad and Hueffer's joint sojourn into the realm of science fiction, with a remarkable plot involving time travel, the invasion of inhabitants of a future earth, parallel worlds, etc. In a letter to Garnett on 26 March 1900, Conrad described the process: "How [Hueffer] worked! There is not a chapter I haven't made him write twice most of them three times over. This is collaboration if you like! . the expenditure of nervous fluid was immense. There were moments when I cursed the day I was born and dared not look up at the light of day I had to live through with this thing on my mind. H[ueffer] has been as patient as no angel had ever been. I've been fiendish. I've been rude to him; if I've not called him names I've implied . the most opprobrious epithets ." (The Joseph Conrad Collection from the Library of the late Stanley J. Seeger Part I). This is one of only a few known copies of the rare first issue Ford Madox Ford himself stated that only four copies of the novel were issued before the dedication was corrected to "Borys." Cagle subsequently located a few other copies (this copy is an Indiana duplicate. Keating 30; Cagle A6a(1), bdg a; Smith 6; Wise 8; Harvey "Ford Madox Ford", A9a. Provenance: Special collections, Indiana University (duplicate); Stanley J. Seeger (book label) Publisher's beige cloth pictorially stamped in red, black and gilt with upper cover with illustration depicting a man and a woman with view of Canterbury in the background. Some rubbing and soiling to boards, light spotting to endpapers and to a few pages First edition, first issue with dedication reading "To Boys and Christina" instead of "To Borys and Christina".
