Covers warped, well worn, stained, corners/spine tips bumped, spotted, lacks ffep, staining in margins, plates toned with scattered spotting and staining, plate 4 torn and plate 24 chipped. Binding tight. Maybe studied "on the road" because of condition. Ink initials in the rear "W.W.H.". The following year, 1863, Brig.-Gen. Casey (who served in the Mexican War and Civil War) wrote "Infantry Tactics For Colored Troops". Volume II only.

Volume 1 published in 1863, the other two published in 1862. Volume 1 has 279pp. + adverts and 32 plates, light water-staining bottom of first few pages; Volume 2 has 279pp. + ads sand 36 plates, some spotting on title-page; Volume 3 has 183pp. + ads and 29 plates. Many of the plates are folding. The trifold illustration in Volume 1 has been professionally repaired with archival tape and is intact. Collated complete. In Volume 1, there are 2 plate #20, but different plates, so mis-numbered. A very clean, readable set. See phots. Size: 5 1/4" x 3 1/2".
