No Binding. Zustand: Fine. Two rare pieces of Saudi travel ephemera. (1) "Mecca Inter-Continental - Opening August 1975". Original promotional label 41x41mm, English text in green and gold with palm tree motif. (2) "Mecca (Makkah) Inter-Continental Hotel, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". Original luggage label 114x148mm with rounded corners, English and Arabic text, in cream and brown with gilt palm tree motif and lettering. Undated c1975. Both fine and unused with original backings in place. InterContinental opened its first hotel in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh in May 1975, with Mecca following soon after in August. The 215 room Mecca hotel was located on the main highway four miles from the centre. It was designed by Rolf Gutbrod, with IHG's Graphic and Interior Design VP Neil Prince leading on the interiors. Prince credits his staff Charles R. Alvey and Richard Simpson with the label graphics, noting that they were copied by competitors. Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Oblong quarto (14.5" x 10.5"). A collection of 101 color luggage labels mounted in an elaborate album. Bound in olive-green crushed morocco over boards, with elaborate gilt tooling and turn-ins, a floral design stamped in gold on the front board, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. The labels are mounted on the rectos of 38 thick cardboard leaves (there are a few additional unused blank leaves at the back). Rubbing and modest wear to the joints and edges, near fine. An impressive collection of 101 colorful labels: most are from hotels and resorts located throughout Germany, including one marking the 25th anniversary of the Hotel Reichshof (Hamburg) in 1935, and another printed for the Oberammergau Passion Play in 1950. Also included are labels from several hotels throughout Austria, Italy, and France, and about three or four labels from elsewhere, including one from Budapest. Most likely date from the 1930s and 40s, including two or three variant issues of the same design (in different sizes). All are neatly mounted in an especially handsome morocco album.

Penang n.d. ca. 1920's, E. & O. Hotel. Blue & white luggage label, very good, verso clean, one old fold to upper left corner else very good, 15 x 10 cm. The second is round, 12.4 x 12.4 cm., Sarkies Bros., Proprietors on the front, orange. Two very nice luggage labels from the same hotel. Each is a different shape and size, both show a view of Penang * Nice items. *.

[Singapore ? n.d. ca. 1920's-1930's, Raffles Hotel]. Two color labels, one is oval:14.4 x 9.5 cm.,the other is square 14.5 x 10.7cm., very clean, bright undamaged items. Sold as a pair only. These are two superb color-printed labels. The colors are bright and the images are clear, the condition is excellent without flaw. *.
