First Edition. Near fine set bound in gilt decorated beveled boards. Some slight wear and tear as with age. Remains well preserved overall; bright, clean and sharp-cornered. 2 volumes bound in one. Large folio (37x27x10 cm). Contemporary full black calf, sides ruled with intricate gilt foliate borders and decorated with central gilt foliate design, spine with raised bands and gilt-decorated compartments, yellow-coated endpapers, all edges gilt. 4 pages of partial used family register, 41 steel engraved plates after John Martin et al., including 2 engraved titles, 2 frontispieces, and 2 hand-coloured maps. Occasional offsetting and light spotting, some inevitable light shelfwear, generally a most handsome and impressive Victorian Bible. An excellent example of a Victorian Bible, this copy significantly larger and more impressive than usual.

( offfenbar fehlen einige wenige Stahlstichtafeln ). In einem reich goldgeprägtem Ganzlederband der Zeit mit umlaufendem Goldschnitt und Goldfileten, Folio ( 37,5 x 28 cm ). Einband etwas fleckig, berieben, Ecken und Kanten bestoßen, der schmale Einbandrücken angeplatzt, Bindung stark gelockert. Buchblock fast lose. Innen auf Vorsatzblatt alter Widmungsvermerk *George Lee, The gift of his Affectionate Father and Mother on his Birthday 1883*. Erste Seiten lose und mit Randläsionen, im Text eine Seite lose und mit Randläsionen. Seiten teils gering stockfleckig, desgleichen die Tafeln, einige Seiten oder Tafeln etwas angeknickt bzw. eselsohrig. Binding somewhat stained, rubbed, corners and edges bumped, the narrow spine chipped, binding heavily loosened. Book block almost loose. Inside on flyleaf old dedication note *George Lee, The gift of his Affectionate Father and Mother on his Birthday 1883*. First pages loose and with marginal lesions, in the text one page loose and with marginal lesions. Some pages slightly foxed, likewise the plates, some pages or plates somewhat creased or dog-eared.
