First edition, later prints of the adult editions of the first four titles of the Harry Potter series, were published in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001, respectively. These are the only titles of the first edition that have been published. Due to the unprecedented phenomenon of adults reading what was initially considered a children s book, publisher Bloomsbury rebranded the series in 1998 by also releasing an adult version. An important reason for this rebranding was that the bestseller list in newspapers didn't include the book, even though it sold many more copies than any other. (It was included only on the children's list, even when the publisher insisted it wasn't a book solely for children ) With these new covers, they tried to change the perception and be included in the bestseller list of fiction books. The first adult edition was replaced in 2004 by Bloomsbury with both a hardback and paperback featuring a photo cover by Michael Wildsmith, with the complete series of this second adult edition published between 2004 and 2008. All books are in near-fine condition with hardly any damage to the covers, firm bindings, and bright pages without inscriptions or other flaws. A very nice set.

The excellent, unfaded Dust Jacket has bright colors and is without shelfwear or edgewear; it is now protected by a removable Brodart Archival Cover.

Minor bumped upper front corner, sharp spine ends and cornertips. Comes in a near fine first edition dust jacket with hardly any wear and without fading. Housed in a custom-made half-leather Clamshell box. A highly collectible copy.

In the uncorrected proof of the book sent to reviewers, the word 'burnt' on page 7 was misspelled as 'burned'. While correcting, the "Enter" key was accidentally pressed, causing the rest of the sentence to move to the next line. Shortly after this was discovered, the print run was stopped and this printing error was corrected. At the same time, the name on the copyright page was changed from 'Joanne Rowling' to 'J.K. Rowling'. According to Bloomsbury approximately 2.500 First State copies with a dropped text error were printed [see Errington, p 187]. Most of these copies have been included in collections over the past twenty years. This unread copy is in a marvelous condition, almost like new. The boards have vibrant colours, sharp spine ends, sharp corners and cornertips without any wear or traces of use. The binding is very tight, even still a bit crispy when opening. The pages are bright, with hardly the usual toning and without inscriptions, names, dog-ears or other traces of use. The first state dust jacket is inside and outside also in a pristine condition without any fading, discoloration or wear, now protected by a removable Brodart archival cover. One of the most beautiful copies we have ever seen of this very rare and highly collectable book. Comes in a custom-made half-leather clamshell box.
