In den WarenkorbPeter Grant's book is an enlarged and much revised version of his series on gull identification. As well as extensive textual improvements, most of the drawings have been revised and over 170 new photographs have been added. The 23 species of Palearctic gulls (more than half the world total) have been separated into five groups to bring together species with similar characters, particularly in immature plumages. Many of the problems of gull identification stem from the complexities of such plumages, and a major part of the book's text, drawings, and photographs concentrates on this aspect. In addition to the many identification drawings and vignettes by Peter Grant, there is a world distribution map for each species and a 128-page section of 376 photographs. Clean, no marks, SIGNED First Edition hardcover, 1982, from an avid birdwatcher's collection. Dust jacket is clean with very light wear along edges, but book comes with a protective Mylar cover to prevent any future wear. Flap is not clipped. Dark gray cover is clean with gold graphics and lettering on spine. Corners are still sharp. First title page has an affixed bookplate of original owner. Author's 1983 inscription and signature appear on title page. Book contains black and white photos throughout. No marked, creased, or torn pages. A very good copy. About the book >.>.> This second edition of Peter Grant's guide has been extensively revised and has been reset throughout. Importantly, a further eight species of gulls occurring on the west coasts of Canada and the USA have been added. The book now covers 31 species and has been increased in length from 280 to 352 pages. More than 280 new photographs have been added or substituted, bringing the total to 544, including 79 photographs for the eight North American additional species The great increase in interest in gull identification since the publication of the first edition (and the author's series on that topic in British Birds) has helped bring much new information to light. As a result some revision was made to almost every text page and most of the identification drawings were improved in some way; in addition, changes were made to many of the distribution maps. These revisions and improvements were often quite minor, but others were substantial and important (see the author's Introduction). Until recently gulls were widely re.
