Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The 7th International Colloquium on Grammatical Inference (ICGI 2004) was heldintheNationalCentreforScienti cResearch Demokritos ,Athens,Greece on October 11 13, 2004. ICGI 2004 was the seventh in a series of successful biennial international conferences in the area of grammaticalinference. Previous meetings were held in Essex, UK; Alicante, Spain; Montpellier, France; Ames, Iowa, USA; Lisbon, Portugal; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This series of conferences seeks to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of original research papers on all aspects of grammatical inference. Grammatical inference, the study of learning grammars from data, is an - tablishedresearch eldinarti cialintelligence,datingbacktothe1960s,andhas been extensively addressed by researchers in automata theory, language acqui- tion, computational linguistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, compu- tional learning theory and neural networks. ICGI 2004 emphasized the multid- ciplinary natureoftheresearch eldandthe diversedomains inwhich gramm- ical inference is being applied, such as natural language acquisition, compu- tionalbiology, structuralpatternrecognition, informationretrieval,Webmining, text processing, data compression and adaptive intelligent agents. We received 45 high-quality papers from 19 countries. The papers were - viewed by at least two in most cases three reviewers. In addition to the 20 full papers, 8 short papers that received positive comments from the reviewers were accepted, and they appear in a separate section of this volume. The t- ics of the accepted papers vary from theoretical results of learning algorithms to innovative applications of grammatical inference, and from learning several interesting classes of formal grammars to estimations of probabilistic grammars.

This series of meetings seeks to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of original research on all aspects of grammatical inference. Gram- tical inference, the process of inferring grammar from given data, is a eld that is not only challenging from a purely scienti c standpoint but also nds many applications in real world problems. Despitethefactthatgrammaticalinferenceaddressesproblemsinarelatively narrow area, it uses techniques from many domains, and intersects a number of di erent disciplines. Researchers in grammatical inference come from elds as diverse as machine learning, theoretical computer science, computational ling- stics, pattern recognition and arti cial neural networks. From a practical standpoint, applications in areas such as natural language acquisition, computational biology, structural pattern recognition, information retrieval, text processing and adaptive intelligent agents have either been - monstrated or proposed in the literature. ICGI-2000 was held jointly with CoNLL-2000, the Computational Natural Language Learning Workshop and LLL-2000, the Second Learning Language in LogicWorkshop.Thetechnicalprogramincludedthepresentationof24accepted papers (out of 35 submitted) as well as joint sessions with CoNLL and LLL. A tutorial program organized by Gabriel Pereira Lopes took place after the meetings and included tutorials by Raymond Mooney, Gregory Grefenstette, Walter Daelemans, Ant onio Ribeiro, Joaquim Ferreira da Silva, Gael Dias, Nuno Marques,VitorRossio,Jo aoBalsaandAlexandreAgostini.Thejointrealization of these events represents a unique opportunity for researchers in these related elds to interact and exchange ideas.

From a practical standpoint, applications in areas like natural language - quisition, computational biology, structural pattern recognition, information - trieval, text processing, data compression and adaptive intelligent agents have either been demonstrated or proposed in the literature. The technical program included the presentation of 23 accepted papers (out of 41 submitted). Moreover, for the rst time a software presentation was or- nized at ICGI. Short descriptions of the corresponding software are included in these proceedings, too.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book focuses on grammatical inference, presenting classic and modern methods of grammatical inference from the perspective of practitioners. To do so, it employs the Python programming language to present all of the methods discussed.Grammatical inference is a field that lies at the intersection of multiple disciplines, with contributions from computational linguistics, pattern recognition, machine learning, computational biology, formal learning theory and many others.Though the book is largely practical, it also includes elements of learning theory, combinatorics on words, the theory of automata and formal languages, plus references to real-world problems. The listings presented here can be directly copied and pasted into other programs, thus making the book a valuable source of ready recipes for students, academic researchers, and programmers alike, as well as an inspiration for their further development.>.
