He pioneered the application of statistical method to the study of all phases of agricultural production and costs of production, gathering the information for his investigations and gaining first-hand experience through extensive tours conducted in England, Ireland and France. The scientific reform introduced by Young vastly improved British agriculture, and exerted considerable influence far beyond the country's borders. Fussell p. 163. Goldsmiths' 18839. Kress B.4875.
