Uncoloured; trimmed close on three sides, with no loss of printed surface and enough blank paper to facilitate framing, margin repaired with old paper bottom left corner, other very minor defects, overall good condition. A rare map of France, published only in the first edition of Paulus Merula's 'Cosmographiae Generalis' engraved by Baptista van Doetecum. It names provinces, towns, cities and also features topographical detail. The map is embellished with an elaborate compass rose, a delicately patterned sea and the coat of arms for France with three fleurs-de-lis and a crown on top.
