Trade paperback. Zustand: Good. Ninth printing [stated]. The format is approximately 7.25 inches by 10 inches. 125, [3] pages. Cover has some wear and soiling. This is one of The Masters of World Architecture series. Over 80 pages of reproductions including photographs, plans and drawings. The Contents are Text, Plates, Notes to… the Text, Bibliographical Note, Selected Chronological List of Buildings and Projects (1889-1959), Sources of Illustrations, and Index. This is a survey of Wright's vast and remarkably creative building production; the influence of Louis Sullivan, and some of the major innovations Wright brought to architecture. A clear and sensitive examination of a famous American architect's work and the complex combination of cultures that influenced it. Vincent Joseph Scully Jr. (August 21, 1920 November 30, 2017) was an American art historian who was a Sterling Professor of the History of Art in Architecture at Yale University, and the author of several books on the subject. Architect Philip Johnson once described Scully as "the most influential architectural teacher ever." He was also the distinguished visiting professor in architecture at the University of Miami. Scully's early advocacy was critical to the emergence of both Louis I. Kahn and Robert Venturi as important 20th-century architects. In 1999, the Vincent Scully Prize was established by the National Building Museum to honor individuals who have exhibited exemplary practice, scholarship or criticism in architecture, historic preservation and urban design. Scully himself was the first honoree. Frank Lloyd Wright Sr. (June 8, 1867 April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing architects worldwide through his works and hundreds of apprentices in his Taliesin Fellowship. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture". Wright was the pioneer of what came to be called the Prairie School movement of architecture and also developed the concept of the Usonian home in Broadacre City, his vision for urban planning in the United States. He also designed original and innovative offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, museums, and other commercial projects. Wright-designed interior elements (including leaded glass windows, floors, furniture and even tableware) were integrated into these structures. He wrote several books and numerous articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time". In 2019, a selection of his work became a listed World Heritage Site as The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Raised in rural Wisconsin, Wright studied civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin and then apprenticed in Chicago, briefly with Joseph Lyman Silsbee, and then with Louis Sullivan at Adler & Sullivan. Wright opened his own successful Chicago practice in 1893 and established a studio in his Oak Park, Illinois home in 1898. After Wright's death, most of his archives were stored at the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation in Taliesin (in Wisconsin), and Taliesin West (in Arizona). These collections included more than 23,000 architectural drawings, some 44,000 photographs, 600 manuscripts, and more than 300,000 pieces of office and personal correspondence. It also contained about 40 large-scale architectural models, most of which were constructed for MoMA's retrospective of Wright in 1940.[135] In 2012, to guarantee a high level of conservation and access, as well as to transfer the considerable financial burden of maintaining the archive,[136] the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation part.

paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Most of our very good books have only minor imperfections such as shelf wear consistent with a new book that's sat on a bookshop shelf for a year or two. Occasionally we may miss other minor imperfections as we have to grade books at speed. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mi…ll. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

We planned to make the major changes before we… moved in and did, after many delays, and after a movers' strike ended, but in early 1975 we were still eating off sawhorses. We thought we had come a long way, but work had just begun.Little did I know that it would become a love-hate affair, for the first seven years were most trying though slowly the repose and beauty of the house began to captivate me. I had no inkling that ethics would play a role in maintaining, owning, and being owned by a Wright house. Nor did I have any idea as to the varied sacrifices the house would demand. We certainly had no idea that a Wright boom was coming and with it a stream of visitors."--prologue ; AS NEW. Book.
