Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket, As Issued. 113 pages. Hardcover, bound in maroon colored cloth covered boards and gold stamping. Presumably the first edition and not the 1953 reprint. The gold is darkened on the spine, and the cloth on the spine is the faintest bit dull from sunning, with light shelfwear to the edges. Endpapers have the expected tanning from age. Else, the binding is tight and solid, with good edges and corners to the boards, and a clean, unmarked interior. Text in English.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Foundation' by Frederick P. Keppel offers a definitive exploration of the philanthropic foundation and its burgeoning role within the American social and educational landscape. Written during a transformative era for charitable institutions, this work provides a detailed examination of how private wealth is organized and directed toward public benefit. Keppel, drawing on his extensive professional experience, analyzes the administrative structures, historical development, and the profound societal influence these entities wield. The text delves into the philosophies guiding large-scale giving, the relationship between foundations and the institutions they support, and the evolving standards of accountability and social responsibility. By addressing both the potential and the challenges inherent in the foundation model, Keppel offers readers a comprehensive look at how these organizations became foundational pillars of research, education, and social reform. 'The Foundation' remains a significant resource for understanding the roots of modern philanthropy and the enduring impact of systematic charitable investment on the progress of civilization. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Foundation: Its Place in American Life' is an insightful and authoritative study concerning the rise and influence of philanthropic foundations within the United States. Written by Frederick P. Keppel, a figure deeply embedded in the administration of organized giving, this work provides a comprehensive analysis of how these unique institutions became pivotal to the development of American education, science, and social welfare during the early twentieth century.Keppel explores the fundamental character of the American foundation, distinguishing its strategic approach to social improvement from traditional models of individual charity. The book examines the motivations behind the establishment of large-scale endowments and evaluates their role as catalysts for innovation and institutional growth. Through a series of thoughtful observations, Keppel discusses the impact of foundations on public life, the challenges of effective administration, and the evolving relationship between private wealth and the public good. This volume serves as an essential historical record for those interested in the sociology of institutions, the history of philanthropy, and the structured mechanisms of social progress. 'The Foundation: Its Place in American Life' offers a valuable perspective on the formative years of modern charitable organizations from one of the era's most experienced practitioners. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
