The fauna and sport is lavishly described and the events in the jungle are vivid enough so as to sketch a picture in the mind of the reader. Along with describing the fauna, the book also takes the reader to several sites of historical interest; Kandy, Dambula, Anuradhapura are described, a 50 page note is given at the start of the 2nd volume. The last four chapters of the 2nd volumes is the life story of the Kandian friend of the author called Marandhan; it also tells the story of the British occupation of Kandy and the journey of Maradhan to Burma. An appendix at the end puts forth a theological discussion between a Buddhist and a Christian. About the Author: - Sir William Knighton, 1st Baronet GCH (1776 1836) was Private Secretary to the Sovereign, George IV 18221830. He was Physician to the Prince of Wales in 1810.
