Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Hardcover, bound in dark blue cloth Thick boards with beveled edges and gold lettering on the spine. This copy has a library sticker on the spine with handwritten number. Binding good and tight and attractive, but for that ex-libris business. Bookplate on inside front cover from Waterbury CTs Silas Bronson Library, dated 1889. Rubberstamped WITHDRAWN on the free endpaper. Embossed library stamp on title page and a few librarian notations on copyright page. Card pocket and WITHDRAWN stamp at rear endpapers. Binding good and tight. No record of this book ever having been checked out. Title page dated 1889. XX + 192 pages. Both maps present and in excellent condition. 5 Chromolithographs, 6 etchings, 6 engravings and 40 illustrations in the text. The chromolithographs are particularly striking. I would rate this Very Good if it were not for the modest ex-library marks, but as it is, we demote it to good condition. This volume comes from the collection of Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, who was a passionate book collector as well as a renowned biologist. His collection recently came to auction near Washington DC, as we were fortunate to purchase a portion of it, which we're proud to offer here. Please email with questions or to request photos. If you see a photo beside this listing, please be aware that it s an ABE Stock Photo (whatever that is) and not a photo of this book. This copy does not have Lovejoy's name in it, but we provide a card with provenance for purchaser.
