The original manuscript was pr…oduced around 1505-1506 and records Leonardo's observations on the flight and anatomy of birds, air currents, balance, mechanics, aerodynamics and the possibility of human flight. The edition contains a complete, full-size facsimile reproduction of the manuscript, comprising 18 folios or approximately 36 manuscript pages. The leaves reproduce Leonardo's characteristic mirror writing together with his numerous sketches, diagrams, technical drawings and scientific observations. The facsimile measures approximately 21 × 15 cm, corresponding closely to the dimensions of the original manuscript. Accompanied by a scholarly text volume edited by Augusto Marinoni, containing an introduction and both diplomatic and critical transcriptions of Leonardo's text. The study and accompanying texts are entirely in Italian. Collation: scholarly volume of 83 pages plus 5 unnumbered pages, frequently catalogued as approximately 90 pages; complete facsimile reproduction of the 18-folio manuscript. Commentary volume: approximately 30 × 21 cm. Facsimile: approximately 21 × 15 cm. Publisher's presentation case: approximately 36 × 25 cm. The accompanying volume is printed on handmade paper and bound in Fabriano paper.
