In den WarenkorbOne of the four editions from 1782 of an extract from the diary of an anonymous officer serving in the squadron of Charles Hector count d'Estaing (1729-1794), whose aim was to give assistance to the American uprising against the British. In 1778 he distained the Command of a fleet intended to aid the United States against Britain. The slowness of his actions and the extreme care of his manoeuvres, however, granted the enemy many chances to counterattack. This work was meant to discredit the actions of the count, especially those in the city of Savannah, Georgia. It contains numerous references to Martinique, Guadeloupe and the Antilles.According to Howes the author was probably Captain Walsh, the Chevalier O'Connor. Three other editions appeared in 1782 with 94, 112 and 159 pages respectively.Slightly browned, some minor occasional foxing and tattered spine. Otherwise in good condition.l Howes E-198; Sabin 23033 ("of great rarity"); cf. Polak 3721. Contemporary grey wrappers. With an engraved frontispiece portrait of Charles Henry Comte d'Estaing, a woodcut device on the title page, and a woodcut headpiece. Pages: 126 pp.…
