In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Fine. First Edition. Publication: Maastricht, The Halcyon Press, 1929 Formatting: Small 4to, pp. xlv, [1] Condition Report: Fine. Housed in its original slipcase, this magnificent volume approaches the condition of a new book with virtually no defects to note. The full red morocco binding remains wonderfully supple, retaining its rich, unfaded colour, whilst the gilt titling to the spine and the intricate edge-tooling are striking and wholly unoxidised. The five raised bands are crisp and free from the rubbing one might typically expect. The original paper-covered slipcase has faithfully protected the book, showing only the most negligible shelf-wear to its extremities. Internally, the pages are immaculately bright, tight, and completely free from foxing or handling marks, while the top edge gilt remains perfectly luminous. A remarkably well-preserved example. Catalogue Note: This exquisite 1929 printing by The Halcyon Press is a strictly limited edition of 325 copies. What elevates this particular offering is its exceptionally scarce binding; it is one of a small, unspecified number of specimen copies luxuriously bound in full morocco rather than the standard cloth binding. The volume's typography was masterfully designed by the celebrated Dutch typographer Jan van Krimpen, featuring striking red and black Gothic type throughout. The text is beautifully printed on premium Van Gelder handmade paper. While standard cloth-bound copies of this Halcyon Press edition occasionally surface on the open market, locating one of the scarce full-morocco specimen bindings in such an exceptional state of preservation is a genuine rarity. Everyman is arguably the most famous and enduring morality play of the fifteenth century, exploring the universal human confrontation with death. When God summons the personified figure of Everyman to undertake his final pilgrimage and present a reckoning of his life, he desperately seeks companions to accompany him. However, allegorical figures such as Fellowship, Kindred, and Goods forsake him one by one. Ultimately, only Good Deeds is willing to descend into the grave by his side. This powerful allegory remains a cornerstone of medieval literature, presenting a timeless narrative on the transient nature of worldly pursuits and the enduring value of virtue. N/A (illustrator).…
