Early editions of two critical works by William Richardson (1743-1814): the volume on Richard III, Lear and Timon had been first published the previous year; the work on Macbeth and others was in fact a retitling of A philosophical analysis and illustration of some of Shakespeare's remarkable characters, which had been first published in 1774.
