Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History is one of the classics of early Christianity and of equal stature with the works of Flavius Josephus. Eusebius chronicles the events of the first three centuries of the Christian church in such a way as to record a vast number of vital facts about early Christianity that can be learned from no other ancient source. When Eusebius wrote his Ecclesiastical History, his vital concern was to record facts before they disappeared, and before eye-witnesses were killed and libraries were burned and destroyed in persecutions by Rome. He faithfully transcribed the most important existing documents of his day so that future generations would have a collection of factual data to interpret. Thus Eusebius (c. A.D. 260-340) richly deserves the title father of Church history.More readable. This is the only full edition of Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History that has been retypeset in modern, easy-to-read type. Archaic words have been modernized and the punctuation has been updated according to contemporary standards.Easier to use. The Loeb numbering system (now the standard way to cite Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History) has been added to make it easier to locate passages referred to in other reference works. Also, all citations and cross-references have been updated from Roman numerals to the modern form of citation.More complete. The complete text of all ten books of Eusebius is included. Also included is Historical View of the Council of Nicea as well as translations of related documents.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The Ecclesiastical History, and the Martyrs of Palestine' stands as a foundational chronicle of the early Christian Church, authored by the renowned historian Eusebius of Caesarea. This second volume continues the detailed exploration of the development, struggles, and triumphs of the faith from its apostolic beginnings through the fourth century. Eusebius provides a vital record of the succession of bishops, the emergence of theological doctrines, and the challenges posed by various heresies during the formative years of the institution.A significant portion of this work is dedicated to the 'Martyrs of Palestine,' offering a poignant and historical account of the individuals who faced intense persecution and gave their lives for their beliefs during the Roman era. As one of the most important primary sources for understanding the transformation of Christianity into a state-recognized religion, the text bridges the gap between the ancient world and the medieval period. It remains an essential resource for scholars of theology, history, and late antiquity, capturing the spirit and trials of a religious community in transition. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Written by Eusebius of Caesarea, often referred to as the father of church history, this work provides a comprehensive chronological account of Christianity from the apostolic age to the early 4th century. As the first major effort to document the history of the Church on such a grand scale, it offers a vital connection between the classical world and the emergence of Christendom. This first volume meticulously details the lines of apostolic succession, the emergence of early doctrines, and the intense periods of persecution faced by believers under the Roman Empire. Eusebius utilized a vast array of archival documents, letters, and oral traditions-many of which have since been lost-making his narrative an indispensable resource for scholars of theology and ancient history. Within these pages, readers will find significant accounts of the formation of the New Testament canon and the lives of key figures who shaped the early faith.
