Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Mamma was fast asleep at home, her spirit lapped in unconsciousness. Her dreams would not divine that her daughter had stolen out to meet a lover. And next door also they slept unawares, while one of them broke from the circle and came alone to clasp a stranger .' Judith Earle, over-earnest and inexperienced, has always been a little in love with each of the four cousins who come to stay next door and, on her return from Cambridge, becomes madly in love with one of them - Roddy, the 'sensation-hunter'. DUSTY ANSWER traces with delicate nostalgia childhood friendships and the pangs of thwarted young love. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Erstausgabe
Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. None (illustrator). First edition. The first US edition of Rosamond Lehmann's succès de scandale. The first US edition of Rosamond Lehmann's first novel, found in the original dust wrapper. The novel went unnoticed upon its initial publication until Alfred Noyes of the Sunday Times brought it to public attention. It then became a bestseller, although most contemporary reviews focused on the sexual elements if the story. The story triggered a literary scandal, as the romantic entanglements of the novels' protagonist include a brief Romantic encounter with Jennifer, a fellow student at Cambridge University. With an interesting bookplate of a man reading on a donkey. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the head and tail of the spine, with some marginal wear to the extremities. The wrap is torn all the way down the front joint, and is missing a some wrap to the head of the spine. With an inch-long vertical tear to the tail of the spine. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages. Very Good. book.
