In den Warenkorbpaperback. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Written in an encrypted notebook while incarcerated in a Nazi insane asylum and only discovered after his death, The Drinker may be Hans Fallada's most breathtaking piece of craftsmanship. It is an intense yet absorbing study of the descent into drunkenness by an intelligent man who fears he's lost it all. \*\*\* This is a Hybrid Book. Melville House HybridBooks combine print and digital media into an enhanced reading experience by including with each title additional curated material called Illuminations-maps, photographs, illustrations, and further writing about the author and the book. In den WarenkorbFIRST ENGLISH EDITION, a hint of creasing to page-heads of one gathering, pp. [vi], 282, crown 8vo, original red boards, backstrip lettered in gilt, knock to bottom corner of lower board, faint browning to inner margin of free endpapers, dustjacket with a design by Klaus Meyer, the rear panel a little browned, faint mark towards foot of backstrip panel, slightly chipped, nicked and rubbed at extremities, very good. A novel written during a bleak period in the author's life, when Fallada was imprisoned in the asylum at Strelitz for the attempted murder of his wife, Suse. It had originally been written in code, in order to evade the attention of the Nazis, of whose regime it is openly critical - as well as being an unflinching account of his own alcoholic degradation. Translated by A.L. ('Bert') Lloyd and his wife; he was an interesting figure - the greater part of his career, and its legacy, being as an ethnomusicologist and folk-singer, which began during a decade in Australia, on his return from which he began a programme of self-education at the British Museum reading room; finding employment in the Foyles foreign book department, and a circle of left-wing intellectual friends that included Dylan Thomas and Jack Lindsay, he began to publish his own writing and translations - including Kafka and Lorca.
