In den WarenkorbFirst edition. Robert Wallace (1697-1771) was a Church of Scotland Minister, best known for his writings on population. This treatise was produced in response to a work of the same year entitled Lord Dun's Friendly and Familiar Advices, written by the Jacobite sympathiser David Erskine, Lord Dun (1673-1754). Dun's work defended passive obedience to the sovereign, which Wallace seeks to refute as unjustified and alien to the constitution of Britain. Wallace defends disobedience to the sovereign, both in theoretical terms and with specific reference to the Glorious Revolution. The work is scarce in commerce, last recorded at auction in 1968. ESTC T115243. Octavo (187 x 119 mm). Rebound in modern boards, printed paper label to front board, edges sprinkled red. A few blemishes to contents, a few pages lightly creased, tiny chip at head of p. 17, else a very good copy.
