Translated by Ralph Manheim. 310pp. Foxing on topedge, very thin stain at top margin of several pages in the front, about near fine, lacking the dust jacket. Briefly Inscribed by the author on the front fly. A memoir, that Kirkus Reviews called "a rambling, oddly appealing work", of Grass' travels through West Germany in 1969 when he was campaigning for Willy Brandt and the Social Democratic party.

First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's blue cloth with black titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding clean and square, the contents without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps but with faint spotting to the prelims. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased original dustwrapper which has had a small piece of tape removed from the underside (leaving ghosting). Loosely laid in is the publisher's printed compliments card. Signed by the author in black ink on the front free endpaper.
