In den WarenkorbLeft: 750 x 576; Centre: 753 x 598; Right: 750 x 602 mm, on three sheets cut for joining, backed and restored, with slight loss, the paper soiled and stained. A route from the Isle of Wight through the Channel Islands and along the Dorset coast is marked in red ink; two manuscript coastal profiles and other annotations relating to this trip are added. London: John Hamilton Moore, John Hamilton Moore (1738-1807) was a Scottish chart-maker and publisher active in London, in 1793 appointed Chartseller and Hydrographer to H.R.H. the Duke of Clarence, later William IV. Despite this royal patronage, Moore was generally over-shadowed by his rivals, notably the partnership of Robert Sayer and John Bennett and his charts are now rarely encountered. This is a highly detailed chart of the English Channel, on three separate sheets, with larger scale insets of 'Spithead' (the approaches to Portsmouth), 'Falmouth', 'Dartmouth', 'The Downs' and 'Plymouth', as well as a number of coastal profiles. This example was clearly used as a working chart and annotated as such by an owner, with the attendant soiling and damage from handling, but is a rare survival of the type.
