2 folio sheets, 340 x 205 mm. paper watermarked 1794, the first creased and torn at the head. During the French Revolution, Britain was drawn into the conflict along with many other continental countries in what became know as the War of the First Coalition [1792 -7]. Following this, foreigners [aliens] had to apply for permission to reside in Britain and were issued with a provisional licence. Here we have unused copies of both the Declaration [in English and French] and the Provisional Licence which was valid for one month.
