178 pp. 8vo. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. 178 pp. 8vo. The Grateful Dead. Hank Harrison (b. 1941 - d. 2022) was an author who was involved in the Haight-Ashbury scene of the 1960s and became the first manager of The Grateful Dead when they were known as The Warlocks. His books cover a myriad of topics ranging from the Holy Grail to hang-gliding, and more recently a book about the "assasination" of Kurt Cobain by Harrison's own daughter, Courtney Love. Mostly he's remembered for chronicling the Grateful Dead and this book is considered the first such text to do and with an insider's perspective. Included is a flexi-disc recording of Neal Cassady speaking at the opening of the Straight Theatre in 1967 to a jeering crowd with the Dead performing behind him, one of the author's final such performances. Illustrated wrappers with light soiling to wraps and bumps to corners and bottom cover, bears previous ownership in blue ink on inside cover. Original flexi-disc is intact and unplayed inside back cover; overall a very good copy.
