An annual in the publisher's original cloth binding. All edges gilt. Illustrated with a frontispiece, 2 plates, 5 full page illustrations and numerous further… illustrations in the text. Collated complete. The Art Journal was the most important British 19th-century magazine on art. This magazine published annuals on prominent artists. In this 1902 Easter Annual, Helen Rossetti explores the life and work of Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882), who founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848 with William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais. His art influenced the Symbolists and the Aesthetic Movement, and was an inspiration to well-regarded artists and writers such as Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with minimal bumping to the extremities, to the boards, and to the head and tail of the spine. Gilt lettering to the front board remains bright. Front hinge is splitting but is still firm. Internally, firmly bound.
