Hardcover. Hutchison, Rusty (cover artist) (illustrator). Presumed first edition/first printing. xviii, 430 p. : 59 ill., maps; 23 cm. Index of Names. Index of Concepts. Dr. Boek, President of the COllege of Democracy, was assisted by Hatten S. Yoder, Martha Keys, V. J. Adduci, Clyde W. Humphrey, Amos T. Camp, and Donna E. Smith. Foreword by Warren E. BUrger, Chief Justice (ret. ) Supreme Court of the United States. Written in an exciting, easy to read style, with a foreword by Warren E. Burger, Chief Justice (ret. ) of the U.S. Supreme Court, this documents the evolutionary process by which the United States democracy was formed & how it operates. The reader is led in a subtle, friendly & interesting manner through relevant events & processes. It acknowledges the important roles that documents & agreements by earlier leaders had in laying the foundation, beginning with the Magna Carta in 1215 & the Dutch Great Privilege in 1477. The extensive indexes--biographical & subject--make it a significant resource as an encyclopedia. Interwoven are names & deeds of those who made significant contributions to the origin & maintenance of this democracy. As a political science professor & Presidential candidate wrote, "The book is a better combination of history, political science & geography than any other. The author has an ability to say things & move on. It is boiled down to the real meat & does not include puff. " Another Presidential candidate said, "It is indeed a fascinating, comprehensive account of United States history. " According to a teacher, "The author has synthesized both facts & perceptions into a credible whole. The book involves the reader as would a novel. The people, times, places & situations are real, vivid, logical & emphatic. " Very good. No dust jacket. Signed by author.

In den WarenkorbZustand des Schutzumschlags: dj. [Literary and cinematic critique] Typed reports, 3pp. in all, rectos only, reader's delivery stamp to first page dated 22nd August 1960. Perforations down left edge from office binding. Very well preserved. Book: Small contemporary ownership signature to front free endpaper, otherwise a near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Faith Has No Country is a wartime Special Operations thriller set in Occupied France, published in August 1960. Groves' reader's report for Elstree provides a summary of the story, list of principal characters, synopsis and verdict. No film resulted, but author Vernon Best continued to write Cold War era spy novels including 'Read The Instructions', Seeds of Destruction' and 'Next Time I'll Pay My Own Fare', and was likened to John Le Carre. Film production companies have based themselves at Elstree since 1914, and in most cases their archives have been dispersed, lost or destroyed. These unique and hitherto unknown documents from surviving ABPC reader reports, have not been seen since their composition more than seventy years ago, and have never before been offered for sale.
