Voici le volume LXXXVIII du Corpus Christianorum-Continuatio Mediaevalis, qui contient une edition revisee de plusieurs textes de Guillaume de Saint-Thierry (1075-1148). Les volumes precedents des Opera omnia portent les numeros LXXXVI et LXXXVII. Ce troisieme tome contient cinq traites que l'on peut considerer comme des oeuvres didactiques ou spirituelles. Le premer texte s'intitule Le sacrement de l'autel. Voici la premiere oeuvre publiee de Guillaume qu'il a ecrit lors d'une controverse avec son ami liegeois Rupert, qui etait devenu abbe benedictin de Deutz. Le second traite est plus didactique encore: La nature du corps et de l'ame. Ce texte doit beaucoup a l'ecole de medecine situee a Salerne et au Pere grec Gregoire de Nysse (335-395); surtout a son livre La creation de l'homme (Sources Chretiennes 6). Suivent trois traites spirituels, dont les deux premiers appartiennent a la periode abbatiale de Guillaume a l'abbaye de Saint-Thierry (1121-1135). Leurs titres: La contemplation de Dieu (Sources Chretiennes 61) et Nature et dignite de l'amour. Le dernier texte est une reedition de la Lettre aux Freres du Mont-Dieu. Texte ecrit vers 1145 et edite en 1976 par J.-M. Dechanet dans les Sources Chretiennes 223. Prima edizione di questo trattato sui gas flatulenti e le loro problematiche nel corpo umano, scritto dal fisico di Anversa Joannes Fienus (o Fyens), morto nel 1585. L' Autore individua tra le cause della flatulenza particolari cibi e condizioni climatiche, cerca poi di individuare gli organi ove i gas si formano. Descrive infine una serie di rimedi e cure contro la flatulenza, fornendo ricette per sciroppi, elettuari, decotti e unguenti con ingredienti quali rafano, menta verde, zenzero, bacche di alloro, rosmarino, ginepro, liquirizia, finocchio, rabarbaro, camomilla, cumino, aloe e alloro. Trattato dal notevole successo editoriale (ristampato nel 1589, 1592 e 1643), è la prima monografia dedicata ai peti e si distingue per il suo approccio pratico, rispetto a teorie speculative; secondo l'Autore, infatti, Ippocrate ne scrisse in modo più erudito che utile. Very rare first issue of the first edition of a medical treatise on natural poisons, their antidotes and their applicability in curing some diseases, by the Swedish physician and botanist Johannis Linder (1678-1724) from Wermlandia. Linder studied in Uppsala and Leiden and took his degree in Harderwijk. Boerhaave mentions this treatise in his Verhandeling over de kragten der geneesmiddelen (1762), p. 378, in the chapter on antidotes, noting that Johannes Lindelstolpe's book on poisons (1739) had already been published under the name Linder at Leiden in 1707. The intellectual Queen Ulrika Eleonora of Sweden knighted him in 1719 and from that date he used the name Lindelstolpe" . It seems that the second issue of this first edition was printed in 1708.With stamp of the Library of the Medical Society of the County of Kings (Brooklyn, New York, founded in 1822) on title-page, and the presentation form of the University Library of Uppsala to the Library of the Medical Society, dated 23 May 1931. First edition of a treatise on flatulent gas and its discomforts in the human body, written by the Antwerp physician Joannes Fienus (or Feyens, d. 1585). Fienus was born in Turnhout, Belgium, and probably studied medicine at the University at Leuven. He describes the causes of the gas, such as particular foods and climates, and investigates the organs and places where the gas emerges. He also suggests a wide range of cures and remedies for the flatulence. The treatise was reprinted at Heidelberg in 1589 and 1592. In Amsterdam it was published by J. Janssonius in 1643.With a 17th-century ownership annotation on the title page ("Ex libris M. Hyacinthi Au.(?), H. Pietrynieez. R. e. p.16.B.") and another underneath ("Pauli Manfred"). The spine is somewhat worn and has been restored, with some loss of material at the top, the title has faded, the boards are slightly stained, lacking the closing ties.
