Thirdly, the focus is on scaffolding in general and its numerous manifestations that can be used to support CLIL learners. Genauer betrachtet werden dazu verschiedene Studien von Lernenden unterschiedlichen Alters. Ausgehend von den Definitionen von Erst-, Zweit-, und Fremdsprachenerwerb, werden Theorien und Hypothesen zum Erstspracherwerb (FLA) und Zweitspracherwerb (SLA) dargestellt. Anschließend wird das Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) und dessen Bedeutung, Mehrwert und Umsetzung im Unterricht genauer beleuchtet. Dem folgt ein Überblick über die Ergebnisse von Studien zu CLIL und SLA in Hinblick auf das Alter der Lernenden.
