Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. Unknown. Undated but circa 1855. Contemporary blue binder's cloth, spine faded, covers slty marked. Short closed tear to the gutter of prelim leaves, longer closed tear repaired to inner margin of leaf 77/80, leaving adhesive stain on the repair. Some leaves browned and light foxing to some plts. . With a frontis. portrait, engraved title page and 29 plates, far fewer than usually found, although none have been removed in this copy. This appears to be a later, undated, remainder issue as it bears an appendix stating "the production of a new edition . in the present war" and contains the supplementary 4 of 5 plates, that of Smyrna being missing, although the text calls for one. A Clean copy. Collates thus: [v], ii-xii,[1], 4-172pp. Frontis port, vignette t.p and 29 further plates. A PHOTOGRAPH CAN BE SENT PROMPLY UPON REQUEST.

W H Bartlett (illustrator). undated late 1840's large hardback bound in dark green leather effect covers with decorative scroll work and pictorial in gilt to covers , pictorial scenes and titles to spine in gilt and all page edges gilt which still bright. Ex libris plate for George Jobson Brocklesby, solicitor, otherwise clean interior with all pages tight in binding, occasional age freckles . In excess of 80 full page steel engraved plates, depicting mosques, cemeteries, castles and architectural details and a map of Constantinople all of which are present with tissue guards and in good clean condition. Note tisseu guard to the frontis portrait of Miss pArdoe is creased, and one margin to plate on page 79 has a smudge. Covers rubbed to spine edges but still stunning.

Architektur- und topographische Zeichner William Henry Bartlett (Kentish Town 1809-1854) war anfangs für J. Britton beschäftigt. Später unternahm er mehrfach Reisen nach dem Orient und Amerika (Th.-Becker). - Einband angestoßen und etwas berieben. Textblätter etwas stockfleckig, Tafeln meist im Randbereich gebräunt. S. 65-68 und 117-120 im Fußsteg wasserrandig. Gewicht (Gramm): 1600.

A very handsome copy. Three quarter dark green morocco over marbled boards, boards ruled in gilt, five raised bands ruled in gilt, four compartments with floral gilt decorations, two with gilt titles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.
