In den WarenkorbFirst edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spine. With 5 folding plates. The copy of the Austrian School economist Frank Fetter (1863-1949), with his signature in ink to the front free endpaper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the spine bright. The contents with Fetter's inscription and tanning to the endpapers are otherwise clean throughout. Lacking the dustwrapper but nevertheless an excellent copy of an important work. Colin Clark (1905-89) was a British economist and statistician widely noted for his groundbreaking work in economic statistics and national income estimates, pioneering the use of the gross national product (GNP) in his studies. This, the first edition of Clark's seminal work on growth, "not only gave a considerable stimulus to the subsequent development of growth theory and models, but also had an important effect on western thinking about the undeveloped world. For the first time, the gulf between living standards in the rich and poor countries.was brought home in hard statistical terms". Consequently, "well into the post-war years, until United Nations data became available, almost every writer on development economics" utilised Clark's work (Arndt, Economic Development).
