In den Warenkorb[Spy thrillers] JAMES BOND PAPERBACKS. Fourteen volumes. Octavos (18 x 12 x 18). A vintage set of Pan paperback printings in the classic 'X' series with cover artwork and bold 'James Bond' lettering after designs by Raymond Hawkey. A few titles with ink names/owner's inscriptions, one with pencil name, cheap paper stock toned as usual, acceptable soiling to covers, some rubs/wear to spines, no chips or tears to covers, generally presentable. A very good set. A few titles in this series are becoming rather scarce. Introduced on Thunderball in 1963, the stylish 'X' series featured the "iconic 'JAMES BOND' lettering, being larger and bolder than either the book title or the author's name. His [Hawkey's] cover art was applauded by Fleming and remained unchanged until 1969" (Gilbert, pp.36, 311). These are the familiar designs which a vast audience remembers vividly; many readers will have encountered the literary 007 for the very first time via a paperback from this series. Gilbert, Jon: Ian Fleming The Bibliography (2012).

In den Warenkorb[Spy thrillers] COMPLETE AS ISSUED. Seven volumes [all that were issued in this series], octavos (16 x 10 x 9cm). A vintage set of the 'Great Pan' paperbacks with the multi-coloured 'banded' covers and inset head-and-shoulders portrait of James Bond. Each volume correctly priced at 2/6 (all UK copies- unpriced export issues were also produced). Early printings with Goldfinger being a first paperback edition. Discreet owner name to inside cover of first title else no other ink inscriptions. Used copies with some expected toning and general wear, joints rubbed, spines aged and rolled. Very good overall. Increasingly difficult to assemble. These are unofficially referred to as the 'director' series, because the model for James Bond appearing on the banner was apparently Pan Books' managing director Ralph Vernon-Hunt. In den Warenkorb[Spy novels] ALL FIRST U.S PRINTINGS. 14 volumes, octavos (overall dimensions 20 x 13 x 33cm). Publisher's hardbacks in illustrated dust-jackets. The American edition of Octopussy was the first to be illustrated. All show the correct dollar price bar two, which are price clipped (DAF, YOLT), some others have corners clipped by publisher (as was the practice) while retaining price. Contents clean, no ink names or inscriptions, one has bookstore label (DAF), one with discreet ink stamp beneath flap (CR), one has small tape marks to endpaper (FYEO), one has blindstamp/relief stamps to prelims (OHMSS). Jackets with some minor wear, a few chips and tears, Moonraker jacket expertly restored, generally bright and fresh. Very good to near fine throughout, showing well as a set. Gilbert notes that the American dust jackets, from Live and Let Die to Doctor No, are "often" or "invariably" clipped, with the printed price retained elsewhere on the jacket, as here. Becoming increasingly difficult to assemble. Three titles (LLD, FRWL and OHMSS) are from the collection of Ian Fleming bibliographer Otto Penzler, with auction house advertising cards and book labels inserted. See Gilbert, Jon. Ian Fleming The Bibliography (2012). Swann Galleries, New York, The Otto Penzler Collection of British Espionage and Thriller Fiction, 8 April 2010.

In den Warenkorb[Spy novels] 14 volumes. Later printings (three firsts), in a similar format to the first printings, bibliographer's copies. Octavos (20 x 14 x 36cm). Publisher's hardbacks in original illustrated dust-jackets. All Cape printings (the original publisher of the James Bond novels), the final three titles being FIRST IMPRESSIONS. A uniform set which shows well. Contents clean, owner name to one volume (FYEO), neat bookstore stamp/label to two (DAF, GF), some faint tape marks to endpapers of one (FRWL), edges clean with occasional toning, jackets generally bright and fresh with minor wear only, all are priced except GF (some are repriced by publisher). Overall bright and presentable. Bookplate of Fleming bibliographer to first volume, with some of his pencilled notes to endpapers of some other volumes. An attractive vintage set; with early hardcovers much in demand, and many being destined for the library system, this series is becoming rather difficult to assemble in decent order.

In den Warenkorb[Spy Fiction] FIRST SIGNET EDITIONS, all first printings. Fourteen volumes, octavo (18 x 11 x 17cm). Publisher's colour illustrated softcovers, all edges tinted red. Expected toning to cheap newsprint-type paper stock, no ink names, some minor handling/spine roll to covers, small chip to corner of 'Spy', bookplate to 'Golden Gun'. The majority of titles are in fine condition. A particularly bright set. An important edition, being the first uniform set of James Bond paperbacks to be issued in America; prior to this date only four books in the series had been issued, in a smaller format (two under alternative book titles) by Perma Books. Several of these Signet first printings are increasingly uncommon.
