Atkinson, in which the Lockett children go north to the Scottish border for the holidays and end up having a grand adventure. This book follows previous novels following the Lockett family, such as 'Mystery Manor' and 'August Adventure'.M. E. Atkinson (1899-1974) was an English children's' writer. Her most popular series was the Lockett series, for which she wrote a total of fourteen books. She also wrote a few one-act plays and the Fricka series.Collated, complete. In the original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Some marks to boards with some fading and discolouration particularly to the top edge of the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of spine. Die Freiheit jedes einzelnen freigekauften DDR Bürgers kostete Westdeutschland 95 847,- DM Westmark. Der Wert eines einzelnen Menschen ist jedoch bei Gott gleich hoch. Wer zahlt den Preis zur Erlösung in eine ewige Freiheit. Das kann nur derjenige zahlen, der dich erschaffen hat. Unser Schöpfer liebt jeden Menschen gleich. Meinen Wert nach weltlichen Maßstäben zu messen ist zutiefst würdelos. Deswegen ist die Würde des Menschen unantastbar. Governor Stevenson clearly read this copy, for he has pencilled neat small checkmarks on about one dozen pages where he is referenced, and on the front flyleaf he pencils "Page" and lists eight of those pages; lastly he pencils a cryptic number on rear jacket flap. The first of these is the well-known opening of White's February 6, 1956 essay "Bedfellows" on page 37, which begins: "I am lying here in my private sick bay on the east side of town between Second and Third avenues, watching starlings from the vantage point of bed. Three Democrats are in bed with me: Harry Truman (in a stale copy of the Times), Adlai Stevenson (in Harper's), and Dean Acheson (in a book called A Democrat Looks at His Party)." Not a first edition, but unique -- Stevenson clearly enjoyed these many references to him and the favorable light in which White held him.
