From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Author's name handwritten on cover, otherwise very good and clean. - From the text: The 'Vulgate' commentary on Ovids Metamorphoses, composed in the Orléanais,…possibly at the cathedral school at Orléans ca. 1250, may be considered the most influential set of glosses preserved on the epic from the High Middle Ages. To date, eighteen complete or fragmentary manuscripts of the text have been identified which document the circulation and dissemination of the text during the later thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. A recently discovered partially preserved text of the commentary written into the margins of an incunabulum of the Metamorphoses in the British Library now demonstrates that the commentary was still being read as late as 1475 and that humanistic readers of the poem considered it significant enough to copy into their printed editions.
