Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. xvi, 392 p. 26 cm. Colour frontispiece and 16 other plates. The 9 pasted-in colour plates have tissue guards. Red cloth with gold impressing on front cover and spine. Top edge gilt. Some spots on covers. A little shelf wear to lower edges. Small tear in spine head. Some tissue guards torn. Contains general poems, Barrack Room Ballads and Service Songs from the South African War. Includes well-known pre-1910 poems like Gunga Din, Mandalay, Recessional, The Ballad of East and West, etc. This American edition preceded the British, which didn't appear until 1912. The Sacrifice of Er-Heb is included here but is not in the British edition. Note that the swastika symbol found on front cover and spine has nothing to do with the Nazis, who didn't come into power until 23 years after this book was printed. It is, of course, an ancient religious and cultural symbol found in various Eurasian cultures.
