Zustand: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 500 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Coupled climate system models are of central importance for climate studies. A new model known as FGOALS ( the Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model), has been developed by the Sate Key Laboratory of Numerical Modeling for Atmospheric Sciences and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (LASG/IAP, CAS), a first-tier national geophysical laboratory. It serves as a powerful tool, both for deepening our understanding of fundamental mechanisms of the climate system and for making decadal prediction and scenario projections of future climate change. "Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System Model: A Modeling Tool for the Climate Change Research Community¿ is the first book to offer systematic evaluations of this model¿s performance. It is comprehensive in scope, covering both developmental and application-oriented aspects of this climate system model. It also provides an outlook of future development of FGOALS and offers an overview of how to employ the model. It represents a valuable reference work for researchers and professionals working within the related areas of climate variability and change. Prof. Tianjun Zhou, Yongqiang Yu, Yimin Liu and Bin Wang work at LASG, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The climate is changing as a result of GHGs emission mainly from human activities. Climate changes climate will adversely impact various ecosystems and economic activities. Semi-arid environments will be impacted more than other environments as extreme events are likely going to occur more on this regions. The water sector is more likely to be impacted more than other sectors due to its direct link with precipitation, which will be affected by climate change. Though most of the studies have ignored the impacts of climate change on the demand side of water resources, to get a holistic view on the impacts of climate change on water resources there is a need for overall assessment both demand and supply. The rationale for assessing the impact of climate change on both the supply and demand is because water availability is a function of both supply and demand. Thus, this book employs systems dynamic model to simulate the total impacts of climate change on livestock water demand and supply in Botswana. The results can be used to determine the vulnerability of the livestock sector to impacts of climate change on water resources in semi-arid environments of Africa.
Gebunden. Zustand: New. This textbook presents all aspects of climate system dynamics, on all timescales from the Earth s formation to modern human-induced climate change. It will be invaluable for any course on the climate system, and will also be useful for scientists and profes.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This interdisciplinary volume aimed at graduate students and researchers provides a thorough grounding in the tools necessary for an appreciation of climate change and its implications. It discusses not only the primary concepts involved but also the mathematical, physical, chemical and biological basis for the component models and the sources of uncertainty, the assumptions made and the approximations introduced. Climate System Modeling addresses all aspects of the climate system: the atmosphere and the oceans, the cryosphere, terrestrial ecosystems and the biosphere, land surface processes and global biogeochemical cycles. As a comprehensive text it will appeal to students and researchers concerned with any aspect of climatology and the study of related topics in the broad earth and environmental sciences.

Whereas atmospheric modeling was once the domain ofa few research units at universities or government laboratories, it can now be performed almost anywhere thanks to the affordability of computing power. Atmospheric general circulation models (GCMs) are being used by a rapidly growing scientific community in a wide range of applications. With widespread interest in anthropogenic climate change, GCMs have a role also in informing policy discussions. Many of the scientists using GCMs have backgrounds in fields other than atmospheric sciences and may be unaware of how GCMs are constructed. Recognizing this explosion in the application of GCMs, we organized a two week course in order to give young scientists who are relatively new to the field of atmospheric modeling a thorough grounding in the basic principles on which GCMs are constructed, an insight into their strengths and weaknesses, and guid ance on how meaningful numerical experiments are formulated and analyzed. Sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and other institu tions, this Advanced Study Institute (ASI) took place May 25-June 5, 1998, at II Ciocco, a remote hotel on a Tuscan hillside in Italy.
