This second edition is attractively printed by Charles Whittingham and was also issued by William Pickering.

This work champions high welfare for workers, and it written as a practical guide to making social change. Sir Arthur Helps was an English writer, and dean of the Privy Council, the formal body of advisors to the sovereign of the United Kingdom. He wrote numerous political works and was an strong advocate for animal rights. With a bookplate for one, 'Peter M. Scott', to the front paste-down. Rebound in quarter morocco. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned to the edges but otherwise bright and clean with just the odd spot throughout. Fine. book.
