Erstausgabe
First edition, first impression, of this little-known pamphlet by an old China hand which presciently argues that Britain risks being dragged by misinformation into military tensions in East Asia. "The layman will save some heartburning if he takes a little salt with his breakfast news on China" (p. 24). We have traced for institutional copies: University of Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, New York Public Library, and Cornell. The author (1888-1970) was the son of Christian Rasmussen, who served with the British navy during the Boxer Rebellion. Otto Rasmussen lived in China in the early decades of the 20th century and wrote a number of books including a widely cited history of Tianjin (1925). Octavo, pp. 24. Original orange wrappers, wire-stitched as issued, front cover lettered in black with half-tone illustration of Japanese war monument in Dairen. Map on inside front cove.r Wrappers soiled and lightly worn, rear cover creased with small chip at foot, contents clean. A very good copy of this delicate pamphlet.
