Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Near Fine dj. First Edition. [very nice copy, tight and clean with no discernible wear; the jacket shows only a touch of surface handling wear]. Simon's semi-autobiographical play about a writer finding love again with a soap-opera actress after the death of his wife. The play premiered in Los Angeles i…n October 1977, moving to Broadway with the same principal cast (Judd Hirsch, Anita Gillette, Cliff Gorman, and Ann Wedgeworth) two months later. The play itself, and Simon as the playwright, won that year's Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards; the Broadway production was nominated for four Tony Awards, with Wedgeworth winning as Best Featured Actress in a Play; it ultimately ran for 857 performances -- closing in December 1979, just days before the release of the movie version, screenplayed by Simon, with James Caan and Marsha Mason in the leads. (Mason, who was then married to Simon, was the original inspiration for the actress character.). Illustrated by (dj design) Sven Mohr (illustrator).
