Chicago 1948, National Holiness Missionary Soc. Blue cloth, very good, dj., co-author Mrs. J. J. Trachsel, 261p., end paper maps, leading edge rubber stamped, contents clean, 28 b.w. photos. AUTHOR'S SIGNED COPY. S C A R C E An excellent biographical resource, likely the one and only done on this celebrated missionary & saint. Written by his wife [missionry to China from 1904-1939] & another mission- ary, Mrs. Trachsel, her close colleague. In 1901, Cecil went to China as a missionary just after the Boxer Rebellion. He went to Peking, and was attacked by Boxers in Paoting, but survived to live and work in Nankwantao. Written in a diary style, this is a very informative work, showing the daily activities and work of the young American missionary. They also survived student uprisings, anti-Christian bands, and when the Japanese invaded, they were incarcerated. A very fascinating primary resource.
