The argument is that just like a flame cannot be caught, so the lover's heart and soul are elusive. Handcoloured etching on hand laid paper. Description: From: "Amorum Emblemata, figuris Aen…eis incisa Studio Othonis Vaeni." Published in Antwerp (1608) by the Otto van Veen and printed by Hieronymus Verdussen.Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Otto van Veen'. Otto van Veen, also known by his Latinized name Otto Venius or Octavius Vaenius, (c.1556 6 May 1629) was a painter, draughtsman, and humanist active primarily in Antwerp and Brussels in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century. Condition: Very good, given age. The edges of the sheet faintly soiled. A tear in the top left margin corner, with an old restoration to the rear. A small nick in the lower margin.
