Very light wear at the top of the spine; stain from early owner's bookplate; moderate foxing to the first few leaves only. A very good copy. Oliver M. Spencer, his sisters and parents were among the earliest settlers in Cincinnati; on July 4, 1792 he was captured by the Shawnee at Fort Washington, and spent nearly eight months among them before being ransomed and released. His narrative includes details of his journey home through Detroit. First published in 1835, this is an undated later printing; the American Antiquarian Society dates this printing between 1857 - 1868 when the publisher, Carlton & Porter are listed as agents for the Sunday School Union of the Methodist Episcopal Church in New York City directories. Earlier printings are listed by Howes, Ayer Collection, Field and Graff.…
