First trade edition of this commemorative volume that showcases the publishing house's first decade. Octavo, publisher's original half-cloth over marbled boards, top stain black, Borzoi Books logo with Russian Wolfhound endpapers, title page vignette, illustrated with portraits of Alfred A. Knopf, Blanche W. Knopf, and of the contributing authors. In very good condition. The Borzoi 1925: Being a Sort of Record of Ten Years of Publishing by Alfred A. Knopf is a commemorative volume produced to mark the first decade of the Knopf publishing house, reflecting both the firmâs achievements and its cultivated identity within American literary culture. Designed with the elegance and typographic sophistication that became the companyâs hallmark, the book catalogues notable authors, titles, and design innovations that distinguished Knopfâs list between 1915 and 1925. More than a mere anniversary record, The Borzoi 1925 functioned as a statement of Knopfâs philosophy: a commitment to internationalism, high literary standards, and bookmaking as an art form.

First edition. The large paper issue, one of 500 copies, inscribed to Frederic G. Melcher (Publisher's Weekly editor, with his bookplate) by Alfred, Blanche and one can only assume the Borzoi himself. A number of original contributions: Cather (on Katherine Mansfield), Coppard, de la Mare, Lawrence, Mencken, Nathan, Van Doren, Van Vechten, Wylie et.al, with a who's who of Borzoi writer's and a bibliography of all Knopf publications to date.
