In den WarenkorbSeries title. Contemp. full maroon cloth, spine lettered in gilt; extremities v. sl. rubbed. A nice copy. Not in Glover & Greene. Hubin p. 9, who notes its attribution to Maartens but lists it as anonymous. First published by Remington in 1889. Told from the perspective of a former private detective, he recounts a mysterious murder he investigated that never gained the attention of the press. Maarten Maartens was the pen name of Dutch author Jozua Marius Willem van der Poorten Schwartz, 1859-1915, who wrote almost exclusively in English. This is thought to be his first novel - and one of the first detective novels by a Dutch author (albeit written in English).
